Mets Take Game 1 in NLCS

NEW YORK (AP) - Game Two of the National League Championship Series is scheduled for tonight at Shea Stadium, where the Mets won last night's opener 2-to-0.

St. Louis skipper Tony La Russa has switched gears and has decided to go with his ace in an attempt to even the series. He'll hand the ball to 15-game winner Chris Carpenter. The 2005 Cy Young Award winner is 4-and-0 with a two-point-10 earned run average in five career postseason starts.

New York counters with rookie John Maine.

The Redbirds are going to have to get more production from their top offensive threat if they're going to move on to the World Series. After a pair of game-winning hits in the first two games of the playoffs, Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) is 0-for-10, including an 0-for-3 performance last night.
