Metal Detector Catches Armed 14-Year-Old

CLEVELAND - A 14-year-old boy is in juvenile detention, accused of trying to bring a loaded gun into his school, 19/43 News reported.

investigating the frightening occurrence, which took place at an east
side middle school
on Monday.

Police said that hand-held metal detectors were set off when the 14-year- old student was lined up to walk into Nathan Hale Middle School on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The student reportedly tried to run away from the scene when he saw the security guards with the metal detectors, but it was too late.

Security guards caught him, and held him for police, who later arrested the boy and placed him in juvenile detention.
The gun was loaded when it was confiscated.
Beyond the criminal charges that he faces, the 14-year-old student could also face expulsion from school.
