Board Certifies Election Of Mayor By 13 Votes

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) - The Lake County elections board certified the Wickliffe mayor's election Tuesday by 13 votes out of more than 5,000 cast on Nov. 6.

The bipartisan board certified results showing Thomas Ruffner beat Mark Oesterle by 2,753 votes to 2,740, or 50.1 percent to 49.9 percent, in the nonpartisan election.

The certification followed the review of 22 provisional ballots by people who had recently moved, been hospitalized or cast absentee votes from overseas. The review widened Ruffner's lead by seven votes.

Ruffner, 54, is a 16-year member of the Wickliffe city council.

Oesterle, 61, is a former councilman and retired operations director for the Cleveland MetroParks.

Wickliffe Mayor Julie Morales was limited by law to two four-year terms in the Cleveland suburb of more than 14,000 residents.
