CLEVELAND (AP) - Gary Denbo, the New York Yankees' hitting coach last season, was hired Tuesday as a scout by the Cleveland Indians.
Denbo had been with the Yankees for the past 12 seasons, and served last year as the club's hitting instructor on manager Joe Torre's staff.
The 40-year-old Denbo previously served as the Yankees' assistant director of player development for one year and as the organization's hitting coordinator from 1997-2000.
Denbo and Gary Tuck will be the Indians' two major league scouts under general manager Mark Shapiro.
"Gary has had a long, successful career in a championship organization and is a tremendously hard worker and student of the game," Shapiro said. "We are excited to make Gary a part of our decision-making team."
