Mascot Sues After Being Hit With Foam Banana

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A former University of Iowa mascot is suing The Ohio State University over injuries she says that she suffered when a member of the Buckeye marching band bopped her on the head with a foam banana.

Angela Anderson says that she cracked a vertebra and couldn't finish the season as "Herky the Hawk" because of her injuries.

It's been more than two years since the alleged incident.

Anderson says that a band member riding on the shoulders of a bandmate thumped her on the head with a three-foot foam banana. The lawsuit says that Ohio State didn't do enough to maintain a safe atmosphere at the football game.

Anderson's lawyers say that OSU is responsible because it's tradition for band members to hit the opposing team's mascot after a touchdown.
