CLEVELAND - A Lakewood man was stopped at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Tuesday night for violating federal cash laws, 19/43 News reported.
Nabeeh Awawdeh, 47, was charged on Wednesday in a Cleveland federal courtroom for allegedly trying to carry nearly $40,000 and 60 blank checks onto a flight to Jordan.
It is illegal to take more than $10,000 out of the country without filing the proper paperwork.
Awawdeh, who owns a Stop-and-Save mini mart on Saint Clair Avenue, is free on bond. If convicted, he could face five years in prison.
