Ohio Deer Hunter Accidentally Shoots Wife

BYESVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A Guernsey County deer hunter hadn't even gotten out of his house when he scored a hit -- on his wife.

Gary Johnson was inspecting his shotgun early Monday morning in his Byesville home when the gun fired accidentally, sending the slug through the kitchen wall.

The 52-year-old Johnson heard his wife cry out and found her on the kitchen floor, bleeding. The slug had grazed her head before smashing into a microwave oven.

Sherry Johnson was treated at a hospital in Cambridge and released.

Wildlife officials say that there was only one injury in the field on the first day of the deer gun season. A hunter in Hocking County was hurt when his shotgun exploded as he fired it.
