Indians Hire New Player Personnel Director

CLEVELAND (AP) - Steve Lubratich, an assistant general manager for the past seven years with the Detroit Tigers, was hired Monday as director of player personnel of the Cleveland Indians.

In the newly created position, Lubratich, 46, will report to new general manager Mark Shapiro.

Lubratich appeared in 64 games for the California Angels in 1981 and '83 before managing in the minor leagues for three years. He also worked as an advance scout for San Diego before joining the Tigers in 1995.
