Indians Honor Top Minor Leaguers

CLEVELAND (AP) - Catcher Victor Martinez and left-hander Mike Bacsik, who was called up briefly by Cleveland last season, on Tuesday were named the club's respective minor league player and pitcher of the year.

Martinez, 22, hit .329 with 10 home runs and 57 RBIs in 114 games for Kinston (A) and was MVP of the Carolina League.

Bacsik, 24, split the year between Double-A Akron, Triple-A Buffalo and had two stints with the Indians. He went 13-6 with a 3.03 ERA in minor league games and appeared in three games for Cleveland.

Martinez will receive the Lou Boudreau Award, named after the late former Indians shortstop. Bacsik's award is named after Bob Feller, the Indians' Hall of Fame pitcher.

Previous Boudreau winners include Jim Thome and Manny Ramirez.
