Hunter Kills Pet Deer; Young Girls Crushed

ROCK CREEK, Ohio - The dream of two young girls to raise a pet deer was shattered when a hunter killed their whitetail fawn, 19/43 News' Lynna Lai reported.

An Ashtabula County hunter faces jail time and fines for killing the girls' pet.

Ever since she saw the movie "Bambi," 6-year-old Amy Truckey had wanted a pet deer. She and her sister got one, but on Tuesday, they lost it. In a scene similar to that in the movie, a hunter shot and killed the fawn right inside its pen, and just 50 yards away from the children's play yard.

"We want another deer," Amy said.

"He told me he wanted to get his boy a deer," Amy's father, Rodney Truckey, said of the hunter. "I guess he got his boy a deer, but look what he did to my family because of it."

The hunter, Tim Hunt Jr., is now charged with trespassing, hunting without a license and negligent hunting. He could face up to six months in jail.
