Editorial: Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays

Cleveland, OH - The people who want to take Christ out of Christmas seemed to be gaining ground in recent years...but now they have suffered a major setback. No less a powerful voice in American culture...than Wal-Mart has done an about face and will bring "X-Mas" back into its marketing after several years of playing down the term in favor of the more neutral "Happy Holidays." And the big retailer isn't alone, Macy's and Kohl's are also playing up X-Mas in their TV, radio and print advertising.

The effort to de-christianize Christmas is yet another example of political correctness run amok. But the majority of Americans are not going to tolerate this one. Those who keep X-Mas are not insensitive to other religions...but as Christians they are...after all, the largest religious group in this country, and X-Mas is what they intend to celebrate...not some ambiguous "Happy Holiday."
