Medina Fatal Accident - One Person Killed

Medina, OH - The Medina post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred approximately at 3:00 p.m. on I-71 near milepost 223 in Medina Twp.

The first vehicle, a GMC Suburban was traveling southbound on I-71 when a Ford Escort, also southbound on I-71, began to slow down for an upcoming accident. In doing so, the driver of the Escort lost control and spun out. The Suburban was unable to stop and struck the Ford Escort on the left hand side. The Ford Escort continued to spin-out and came to a stop in the left lane of I-71 southbound. 

The driver of the GMC Suburban, Margaret A. Tramel,  age 43 of Medina, was not injured.

The driver of the Ford Escort, Christine T. Twardzik, age 21 of Strongsville, was pronounced dead at Medina General Hospital.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
