Escaped Inmate Pleads Guilty to Killing Police Officer

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (AP) - A man who escaped from jail in Chillicothe in southern Ohio and eluded authorities for almost three months pleaded guilty this afternoon to killing a police officer.

35-year-old John Parsons pleaded guilty to shooting Chillicothe police officer Larry Cox in April 2005. Cox was off-duty and unarmed when he joined a police pursuit of a robbery suspect and was shot in the neck.

Parsons became the subject of an intense manhunt after he used a rope fashioned from a bedsheet and toilet paper to escape from a rooftop recreation area of the Ross County jail on July 29th.

Tipsters led police to Parsons on October 19th, when he was found sleeping in a shack near a lumberyard near the jail.
