Reiter Dairy Plant Closes In Barberton

BARBERTON, Ohio (AP) - Reiter Dairy says about 165 people will lose their jobs when it closes a milk processing plant in Summit County in February.

The company says it will transfer the plant's workload to facilities in Springfield, near Dayton, and two centers in Pennsylvania. All but about 75 of the Barberton plants' 242 employees will lose their jobs.

Those 75 employees will assume positions at a one (m) million dollar distribution center that Reiter's parent company, Dallas-based Dean Foods, has pledged to build in nearby Akron.

The company says its ability to process milk far outweighs what it is producing, and that employees will be offered severance packages and help finding new jobs.
