Akron Considers Cell Phone and Pager Ban In Schools

Akron, OH - Akron schools are considering a ban that would keep out pagers and cell phones from schools.

A divided board debated the issue Monday evening, but won't vote on the ban until January 8th, 2007.

Some board members feel that if students can not have cell phones or pagers in class, there will be less classroom disruptions. Others think that cell phones and pagers are good to have on your person in an emergency situation.

Akron banned in-school cell phone use by students in 1998 but administrators say gray areas have made enforcement difficult.
