Oberlin Seeks New School Mascot

ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) - The Oberlin school board has voted to get rid of the high school's Indian mascot.

The change comes after several teachers, Native Americans and others complained it was offensive.

The board voted 4-1 Tuesday night to drop the Indian mascot and get a new one by next school year.

Some board members initially resisted the change because of worries it would cost too much money to get new sports uniforms and memorabilia.
