American Greetings Card Pokes Fun At Cleveland

CLEVELAND (AP) - A hometown company's satirical holiday card features Cleveland's ranking as the nation's poorest big city.

The American Greetings card shows a man in a black-and-white photo walking past urban landscape and reads: "Season's Greetings from Cleveland ... America's Poorest City!" Inside, it says "Happy Holidays."

The Census Bureau determined that Cleveland was the poorest big city in the nation in 2005, its second such ranking in three years.

An American Greetings spokeswoman says the company is not trying to make light of the issue. She says the card is meant as a satire that plays well with some people.

The card was one of ten test-marketed at three locations. Only a few were available, and they have been rotated out of circulation.
