Hundreds Of Monuments Vandalized In Cemetery

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Three-hundred monuments were toppled and damaged and a mausoleum was vandalized with paint at a suburban cemetery. No arrests have been made.

The vandalism occurred sometime Sunday night at the Rose Hill Burial Park and Mausoleum in nearby Fairlawn.

Mayor William J. Roth Jr. said Tuesday he had never seen anything like it in his 16 years living in the city.

"It's disgusting what they did," Roth said. "If we do catch the individuals involved, we definitely will prosecute them."

Cemetery general manager Kevin Boso said it might cost tens of thousands of dollars to make repairs.

Police have no suspects or theories about why anyone would vandalize the cemetery, Chief Ken Walsh said.
