Postal Office Special Deliveries On Christmas Eve

CLEVELAND (AP) - U-S Post offices in northeast Ohio will be making some special holiday deliveries on Sunday and Monday.

Postal workers will make special rounds on those days, dropping off Social Security checks that were delayed after getting lost en route from Philadelphia and Kansas City, Kansas. Post offices in the Cleveland and Akron areas received about 350 calls this week from people complaining their checks hadn't showed up.

Postal Service spokesman David Van Allen says the missing checks began popping up at offices yesterday and they're looking at what caused the delay along with the regional Social Security Administration.

Sixty-eight-year-old Jenous Dowell of Maple Heights jokes that the delay was a subtle way to encourage recipients to use direct deposit.
