Ohio Marine Plays Trumpet At Ford Funeral

PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) - A Marine from southern Ohio says playing his trumpet to honor Gerald Ford was both humbling and amazing.

Corporal Ryan Bond's Marine band performed Friday at the former president's funeral service in Palm Desert, California. Bond says the hair on his neck shot through his uniform as he felt the intensity of the moment playing "Hail to the Chief" for the nation's 38th chief executive.

The Marine from Greene Township in Scioto (sy-OH'-tuh) County says he admired Ford for the way he unified the country after Watergate.

After the service in California, the president's remains were flown to Washington, D-C for today's funeral at the National Cathedral.
