Solon: Outdoor Fireplace Ban Under Consideration

SOLON, Ohio (AP) - One Cleveland suburb is considering whether to put limits on backyard patio fireplaces.

That's after one Solon resident complained that his neighbors' 14-foot-tall fireplace blocked his view and was a potential safety hazard.

Elana Lurie is defending her family's fireplace, saying many people in Solon have them and explaining that the chimneys are built high to filter smoke.

The city council has approved a ballot measure so local voters can decide whether outdoor fireplaces should be outlawed.

The Ohio Municipal League says backyard fireplaces are a new relatively new phenomenon, and few Ohio communities have zoning laws covering them.
