Goodyear to Slash Tire Production in Canada

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Goodyear says it will stop making tires at a plant in Valleyfield, Quebec.

The company based in Akron also says it trim the factory's work force from one-thousand down to 200 by the end of June.

The Valleyfield plant is one of five where Goodyear manufactures private-label tires that are sold to wholesale customers under other brand names. Last year, the company announced plans to cut production of those tires by a third.

Goodyear plans to close another of the private-label plants, in Tyler, Texas. The status of that facility had been a key issue in the three-month strike that thousands of Goodyear workers ended on Tuesday.
