Warren Man Pleads Guilty of Shooting Baby During Drinking Binge

WARREN, Ohio (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty in the accidental shooting death of his 7-month-old half brother during a drinking binge.

David E. Young, 20, of Warren, pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Adam Gunter at home on Dec. 3, 2005. Under the terms of a plea agreement, he could get one year to five years in prison.

Assistant Trumbull County Prosecutor Chris Becker told Judge W. Wyatt McKay that Young was handling a sawed-off shotgun, aimed at a wall and fired. The blast struck the infant in the abdomen as he slept in a crib in the next room, killing him.

Becker said Young has admitted that heavy drinking was the primary reason for the accident.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped weapons charges.
