Massillon Widow Files Wrongful Death Claim Against State

MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) - A wrongful death claim against the state contends that a police officer killed while responding to a call for help should have been told the man being pursued could be armed and dangerous.

The officer's widow is suing the Ohio Department of Public Safety and the state patrol. JuWanna Taylor's case goes before the Ohio Court of Claims tomorrow.

Her husband was killed near Massillon in August 2002 while responding to a call for help from the patrol.

The state says dispatchers followed the proper procedure that was in place. Since then, the state began developing a warning system that kicks in when police encounter someone who has threatened to harm a law enforcement officer.
