Poaching Ring Busted - Jail and Fines Issued

MARION, Ohio (AP) - Jail time and fines have been handed down for five hunters accused of participating in a poaching ring in central Ohio.

The five men, all from Marion, pleaded no contest Tuesday to more than 100 misdemeanor charges accusing them of illegally killing deer, turkeys, raccoons and a beaver.

The men have been ordered to pay about eleven-thousand dollars in fines and nearly seven-thousand dollars restitution to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Three of the men also have been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

The investigation began in the fall after calls to the state's Turn-in-a-Poacher line -- 1-800-P-O-A-C-H-E-R.
