Think Spring! No Shadow for Punxsutawney Phil

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) - It's going to be an early spring. At least that's the prediction from Punxsutawney Phil this Groundhog Day.

The Pennsylgania prognosticator did not see his shadow today, meaning that spring is just around the corner. If the groundhog had seen his shadow, then, according to the legend, we could have expected six more weeks of winter.

The last time Phil predicted an early spring was 1999.

Government forecasters got a head start on Phil yesterday by calling for mild weather in the West, albeit a chilly February in the Midwest and Northeast.
