Two Akron Men Killed in Triple Fatal Accident

CABIN CREEK, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia State Police say speed and road conditions were factors in a collision involving a minivan and an empty coal truck this morning that killed three young men, including two from Ohio.

Police say James Payne of West Virginia was driving two 18-year-old friends from Akron to breakfast when he apparently lost control of the minivan. The van skidded sideways into the oncoming lane and hit the southbound truck. It then struck the face of a cliff along the road.

Payne, who lived in Kanawha County, and his passengers, Paul Thompson and Ryan Hysell, were pronounced dead at the scene. None of them was wearing seat belts.

Police say the truck driver suffered a minor leg injury.
