Mother Arrested, Says Pit Bull Gnawed Boy's Foot, Forcing Amputation

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Police have arrested the mother of a four-year-old boy whose foot was amputated after it was mauled by the family's pit pull puppy.

Twenty-three-year-old Martina Jennings, of Toledo, is in the Lucas County jail on a felony charge of child endangering.

Authorities in Toledo say a pit bull repeatedly bit a four-year-old boy's foot, forcing doctors to amputate his right foot yesterday.

The boy's mother says she saw that the boy's foot was bleeding and that there was blood on the dog's face.

Lucas County Dog Warden Tom Skeldon says the boy suffers from spina bifida and has no feeling below the waist so he didn't know the dog was biting him.

Authorities have seized the four-month-old dog.
