AKRON, Ohio (AP) - The Akron School Board is considering a ban on bringing cell phones to school.
But some parents say they want their children to have cell phones at school in case of an emergency.
The board is concerned that in a crisis students using cell phones could block communications with emergency personnel. The board is expected to make a decision today.
Warren schools in Trumbull County have banned cell phones, hoping the policy will help if there is a future crisis.
Many other school districts allow students to have cell phones at school but ban their use.
Parent Martin Wainwright says a cell phone is important in coordinating pickup times with his sixth-grade daughter.
