Prince Charles' Wife, Camilla, to Undergo Hysterectomy

LONDON (AP) - Prince Charles' wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will undergo a hysterectomy early next month, a spokeswoman for the prince's office said Monday.

She will be hospitalized for several days after completing a tour in the Middle East with her husband, which is scheduled to end on Feb. 28, the spokeswoman for Prince Charles' Clarence House office said. She spoke on condition of anonymity in line with royal policy.

The spokeswoman said Camilla, 59, will need to recuperate for approximately six weeks.

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of the uterus. The operation can be done for various reasons, including cancer, abnormal growths, menstrual problems, or complications following birth.

The spokeswoman said the operation was not the result of cancer, but did not provide further details.
