Ohio Soldier Wounded In Iraq Dies At Hospital In Germany

MINERAL CITY, Ohio (AP) - The father of a northeast Ohio soldier
who died after being injured in an explosion in Iraq says his son
was not assigned to the patrol that ended up being his last.

David Barnett says it was his son's day off, but the 27-year-old
volunteered for duty.

Sergeant Jeremy Barnett, of Mineral City, died Saturday at a
hospital in Germany. The Department of Defense says he was wounded
Wednesday in a land mine explosion.

Barnett was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, where his wife,
Stephanie, is a member of the Texas National Guard.

His father says he joined the Navy after graduating from high
school in 2000 and spent four years on an aircraft carrier before
switching to the Army.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
