Grandson Admits Robbing Grandfather

RAVENNA, Ohio (AP) - A masked man charged with helping rob his grandfather is in jail after police say the grandfather recognized him.

The 19-year-old Todd M-Smith of Garrettsville in northeast Ohio pleaded guilty yesterday in Portage County Common Pleas Court. He was charged with complicity to robbery.

Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci says the grandfather was robbed at his home by Smith and a 17-year-old friend who also was masked.

According to a sheriff's report, the man recognized his grandson and his friend. Authorities say after he called them by name, he was beaten with a baton.

The prosecutor says the friend confessed that Smith planned to have his grandfather knocked out so they could steal his truck.
