Red Line Train Catches Fire Near RTA Station

Cleveland, OH - A Red Line Train caught fire on its way downtown early Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m. near RTA's Puritas Avenue station.

The train was heading Eastbound when a Westbound train operator saw the smoke and called the control center. The control center then called the Cleveland Fire Department and the train operator.

The train made it safely into the Puritas Avenue station and all 30 passengers were safely evacuated from the train.

The Cleveland Fire Department put out the fire within minutes.

No cause yet, but,  the fire was on the outside of the train, not inside.

No injuries reported and the passengers were then put on another train.
