Burress Cited For Failing To Appear In Court

CLEVELAND (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress missed a court appearance after being cited with carrying an open alcoholic beverage container on a downtown street.

Burress, 24, was cited Dec. 24 in the city's Warehouse nightclub district, said police spokeswoman Lt. Sharon MacKay.

He was scheduled to be in Cleveland Municipal Court on Wednesday, but didn't show up and was cited for failing to appear, MacKay said. She did not know what the possible penalty was for missing the court appearance.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday for Burress' agent, Leigh Steinberg.

Burress, a second-year NFL player, has caught 66 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns this season. The Steelers (13-3) have a bye this weekend and will play a division playoff game at home on Jan. 20.

Browns defensive tackle Gerard Warren was charged in November with carrying an unlicensed firearm after police searched his SUV outside a Pittsburgh nightclub at a party thrown by Burress.
