Study: Orange Tomatoes Healthier than Red

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Scientists at Ohio State University say that when you're dicing up tomatoes for your next salad, reach for the orange ones.

The researchers say they've found that lighter-skinned tangerine tomatoes contain lycopene that is more easily absorbed than the kind in red varieties.

A person can absorb up to two-and-a-half times more of the cancer-fighting antioxidant from orange tomatoes than from their red counterparts.

The O-S-U study was published this month in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
