WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) - Left-hander Chuck Lofgren, a 17-game
winner at Class A Kinston in 2006, was among five players the
Cleveland Indians sent back to the minors on Sunday.
Outfielder Brad Snyder, left-handers Aaron Laffey and Scott
Lewis and catcher Javier Herrera also were sent to the minor-league
camp as Cleveland made its first cuts to pare its roster to 52.
Lofgren had a 2.32 E-R-A in Kinston last season, but didn't fare
well in two exhibition games this spring. He gave up five runs and
five hits in one and one-third innings.
Snyder was a first round pick in 2003, but he hit just .167 in
exhibition play, and the team wants him to work on pitch selection
to reduce his number of strikeouts.
