California Brush Fires Force Evacuations

ORANGE, Calif. (AP) - A fast-moving brush fire in Orange County,
California, has prompted authorities to evacuate more than 200

The blaze has scorched 500 acres of parched hillside.
An Anaheim city spokesman says at least one home is on fire, and
many others are threatened.

The fire is being stoked by hot dry winds and fueled by dry
chaparral. It quickly doubled in size in an unincorporated part of
Orange County.

The area has many large homes scattered across the hills with
other denser gated communities.

Firefighters are being aided by helicopters and planes dropping
water and retardant on the flames, and police went door to door to
warn residents to evacuate.

Police say the blaze may have been started by a vehicle fire.
