Early Morning Fatal Accident Kills One

Harpersfield Township - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that resulted in one fatality. At approximately 1:50 A.M. on March 12, 2007, Troopers responded to a traffic crash on Interstate 90 westbound just east of milepost 220 in Harpersfield Township.

Unit I was a Freightliner semi-tractor/trailer driven by Jerry L. Kelly, 34 years old, of St. Joseph, Missouri sustained minor injuries. Brandon M. Mack, 21 years old, of Sparta, Illinois was a passenger and sustained minor injuries.

Unit 2 was a 2007 Ford Taurus four door sedan driven by Kenneth I. Johnson, 50 years old, of Buffalo, New York. Karen Johnson, 44 years old, of Buffalo, New York was a passenger and was flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital by Stat Medvac for injuries sustained in the crash.

Preliminary investigation shows Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Interstate 90. Unit 2 was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes on Interstate 90 causing a head-on collision. Unit I was then forced off the right shoulder and down an embankment before coming to final rest

Mr. Kenneth I. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by Ashtabula County Coroner investigator Rich Mongell
