Drug Suspect Shot, Killed By Cleveland Police

CLEVELAND (AP) - A drug suspect who put his car in reverse and hit a narcotics detective was shot and killed by police in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Sharon MacKay said the suspect apparently was wounded twice Tuesday night. The man, whose name wasn't released Wednesday, died at South Pointe Hospital.

The injured officer, whose name wasn't released, was treated and released. He and a second officer were placed on paid administrative leave, a routine procedure in the investigation of a police shooting.

Officers said they saw the man involved in a suspected drug deal, followed his car and stopped him in the restaurant parking lot. When an officer approached, the man put his car in reverse and hit the officer, MacKay said.
