Akron Drug Bust, Arrests Announced

Summit County, OH - Sheriff Drew Alexander announced today the arrest of three subjects after a SWAT team entry by the Summit County Sheriff's Office at Preston Avenue in Akron, Ohio.

Seized from the residence were a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, two ounces of crack, and several thousand dollars in cash.

Arrested were Randy Fitzgerald (21 years old) of Preston Avenue, Akron, Ohio; Greg Ruple (24 years old) of Glendora Street, Akron, Ohio; and Tommy Williams (18 years old) of Geiger Street, Alliance Ohio.

Two juvenile males aged 15 and 16 were also located inside the residence. They are being charge with daytime curfew, truancy, and occupying a drug premise. They are being transported the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.

A pit bull dog with two pit bull puppies were encountered during the entry. Animal Control officials assisted and the animals were transported to the animal shelter.

The arrests culminated a three-week investigation by the Summit County Drug Unit. Sheriff's officials were assisted by the Akron Police Department and the Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force. Federal weapons violations are being considered by the AFT agent assigned to the Summit County Drug Unit.

Fitzgerald, Ruple, and Williams are charged with possession of crack cocaine and occupying a drug house. Randy Fitzgerald is currently on bond for aggravated possession of cocaine and obstructing official business (both felonies). He has prior arrests for drug abuse, obstruction, and contempt of court.

Greg Ruple pled guilty to possession of cocaine and obstructing official business on October 17, 2006. He was serving probation on those charges at the time of the arrest.
