Cleveland, OH - Discouraging financial news for Hopkins International Airport.

The airport director tells 19 Action News Hopkins owes $1 billion dollars - and is spending half of its operating income to pay the debt.

Ricky Smith says the debt has caused landing fees to increase - making them the most expensive in the area - and it's hurting business.

Smith adds that he's trying to re-negotiate with the airport businesses and has other ideas to try and make Hopkins an more appealing airport for passengers.
