State Seeks Resignations of Cuyahoga BOE Members

CLEVELAND (AP) - Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has asked all four members of the Cuyahoga County elections board to resign by Wednesday.

But board chairman Robert Bennett says he plans to finish his term, which expires in February of 2010. Bennett also chairs the GOP in Ohio.

The state's largest county has had difficulty adjusting to electronic voting, and last week a judge sentenced two elections workers to 18 months in prison for rigging a recount of the 2004 presidential election.

Brunner says her decision is based on her pledge to restore trust to elections in Ohio.

At a news conference in Columbus, chairman Bennett said his board is making progress and did a good job with the election for governor.
