New Owner Announces Closings, Job Cuts At Hoover's Home Base

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (AP) - The new owner of the Hoover vacuum
cleaner company has announced plans to close its main campus and
manufacturing operations in North Canton.

A news release from Hoover parent T-T-I says it will happen by
fall. A T-T-I spokeswoman says the closings will affect about 650
union manufacturing positions, 60 salaried manufacturing employees
and 40 salaried non-manufacturing positions.

She says officials from the company and the International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union are meeting with employees
this morning.

T-T-I acquired Hoover from Whirlpool earlier this year.
North Canton has been home to Hoover for nearly 100 years.
