City's Riverside Undergoing Major Transformation

LORAIN, Ohio (AP) - Lorain's Black River is being transformed into a park and housing area.

The downtown park project will cost $7 million, and be completed in September.

The first phase of the park development will include the Black River Center, to be used for meetings and other events.

Lorain Port Authority Director Richard Novak said that an improved breakwater would allow for a water shuttle to a 420-unit housing complex called HarborWalk and the Lorain lighthouse.

HarborWalk would be completed in five years, and include restaurants, shops and docks.

Possibilities for HarborWalk's second phase include an amphitheater, botanical garden and an industrial heritage center.
