Man Throws Pit Bull At Officer, Barricades Himself In House

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A Steubenville man has been charged with felonious assault after he allegedly threw a pit bull dog at a police officer and then barricaded himself in his house.

Acting Steubenville Police Chief William McCafferty said that a woman called police after she and her boyfriend fought and he left the house.

She asked that officers be there when the boyfriend returned.

McCafferty said that Eric Montgomery confronted the officers when he came home and kicked in the door. The girlfriend waited outside with police as Montgomery threatened them with his two pit bulls.

He said that an officer was backing away from the house and slipped on some ice. Montgomery than picked up one of the dogs and threw it at the officer. The dog came toward the officer, who fired at it, scaring it away.

McCafferty said Montgomery barricaded himself in the house, but emerged a half-hour later. No one was injured.
