Stark County Landfill Owner Expects $22 Million Cost For Fixes

CANTON, Ohio (AP) - The owner of a Stark County landfill says solving odor and fire problems may cost an additional 22 (m) million dollars, about 18 (m) million dollars more than it spent on
those problems last year.

Republic Services of Ohio believes its costs will soar to comply with stringent Ohio E-P-A orders aimed at ending an odor nuisance and underground fire at the 258-acre Countywide Landfill.
But company spokesman Will Flower says the company is committed to fixing the problems.

Republic Services also has had to pay more than one (m) million dollars in fines and financial relief, including a fund to benefit communities.
