The Cleveland Cavaliers, in partnership with the National Basketball Academy, will host the official Cavaliers Summer 2007 Basketball Camp Program. Registration is now open for the 11 day camps offered this summer in addition to two special camps with Cavs guard Larry Hughes. This year's program will also host regional camps in Akron, Columbus, Hiram, Uniontown and Painesville, Ohio and Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
The Larry Hughes Basketball Camps include one day camp and one overnight camp. Hughes will appear at both camps. The academy will provide the Larry Hughes Family foundation with five camp scholarships and partial proceeds from each camp will benefit The Larry Hughes Family Foundation. Basketball assist, the academy's non-profit organization, will match this donation dollar for dollar with a contribution going to the American Heart Association in honor of Hughes' late brother Justin.
Camps are for boys and girls ranging from 7-16 years old. Campers will be grouped by gender, age and ability. The camp curriculum includes individual and team skill development stations such as shot mechanics, ball handling, passing, defense and rebounding. There will be special guest speakers from the Cavaliers organization, daily skill competitions, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games. Campers will also receive a 2007-08 Cavs game ticket, a take home skills packet, a Cavs t-shirt, basketball and headband.
