Indians Ink Deal with Key Starter through '10

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Indians have locked up a key starter so they won't risk losing him as a free agent.

Jake Westbrook has signed a three-year contract extension through 2010.

The right-hander would have been eligible for free agency following this season, his seventh since coming to Cleveland in a trade with the New York Yankees.

Financial terms of Westbrook's contract were not immediately available. The deal does not contain any options.

Now that Westbrook is signed, the Indians can focus on possible new deals for designated hitter Travis Hafner and left-hander C-C Sabathia.
