Fatal Train Accident Kills Strongsville Graduate

Oxford, OH - The Oxford Police Department received a phone call around 3:16 a.m. Saturday morning in reference to a person struck by a freight train.

Officers arrived on scene at the crossing on South Locust Street, and located a female body on the tracks. The female was later identified as 19-year-old Beth A. Speidel, a sophomore who was attending Miami University.

Ms. Speidel was from Strongsville, Ohio and a resident of Hahne Hall. The ongoing investigation indicates that Ms. Speidel was struck and killed by a CSX freight train.

The Butler County Coroner's Office has completed an autopsy and has contacted the family.
