McCain To Critics of Joke: Get A Life

LAS VEGAS (AP) - He was joking, now Senator John McCain isn't amused about questions about his attempts at humor.

While campaigning in South Carolina Wednesday, McCain responded to a question about how to deal with Iran by breaking into the melody of the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann." But he changed the lyrics to "Bomb Iran." The audience responded with laughter. The incident is circulating on the Internet.

Asked Thursday night about it on the campaign trail in Las Vegas, McCain suggested his critics should get a life.

The episode echoed President Reagan's 1984 quip during a microphone test. He said: "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."

Reagan was testing a microphone before his regular Saturday radio address.
